URINE TROUBLE!

On May 15th, 1963, Gordon "Gordo" Cooper, was the last NASA astronaut to fly a solo mission and what a mission it was! All of Mercury 9's automated systems failed and Gordo had to pilot manually. This is an excerpt from Episode 6 of the series Rocket Science. To watch the full 13 parts visit: www.foolishearthling.com

THE BRAIN CAFE'S PERSON OF THE YEAR - ASTRONAUT CHRIS HADFIELD!

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield spent his time onboard the International Space Station showing us that the world really is one. He's the first astronaut to record a music video in space, and then he made another one! His hard work and adventures in space engaged our curiosity, inspired minds both young and old and reminded us of the awesomeness of the little blue marble we call home. Well done, Commander Hadfield!

by Eva Everything
posted October 31, 2013

The European Space Agency just released a spectacular flyover of Mars to celebrate Mars Express' tenth year orbiting the red planet. Created from images taken by the satellite's High Resolution Stereo Camera, the movie has a 3D look. The data were captured during Mars Express' 12,500 or so orbits around our nearest planetary neighbour. The upbeat music for the video was written by a scientist on the team - planetary cartographer Stephan Elgner.

May 6th was Music Monday. Colonel Chris Hadfield, commanding the International Space Station, sang with the world on his last download from space. Millions of students in Canada, and around the world, joined in to sing I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing), the song that Col. Hadfield and Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies) wrote and debuted from space earlier this year. What an inspiring event Music Monday was, with a hopeful message that we can all take to heart.

A Perfect Blend of Art and Science

Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has been creating indoor clouds for a few years now. He controls the temperature and humidity in the room and then uses a smoke machine and dramatic lighting to make his artificial indoor clouds. The clouds only last for a few moments and they never ever rain but you have to admit, they're pretty spectacular eye candy.
